I'm a strong supporter of the mentality that nice things do not need to cost crazy money. If you wait, shop around and do the research, you can get some very good deals, get some rather nice items, and not break the bank.
To show how relevant this is, I'm going to give you a reason to do what all car guys do anyways, go online and drool over cars hoping one day to put your own money down on them. Go on your local Craigslist, Autotrader, or whatever and find the most car you can for under $5,000. Post your links below and the person to find the best deal wins a virtual pat on the back from me.
Personally the deal I have found that stands out the most to me was when searching for my first car. I found a Jaguar XJ with a Corvette C4 V8 swapped in it for $4999. It is no longer listed, but the car was very clean and the swap was done very tastefully and very well. British racing green, tan leather, J-Gate. The thing was so cool. Awful DD. Great toy.
Links on your findings below! Happy hunting!

The car/truck in the listing is not that special, but hopefully the description will give you a laugh...
